4 A BETTER WESTCHESTER + NYS ASSOCIATION, INC. is a not-for-profit based in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, dedicated to improving the quality of life in Westchester County and throughout NY State.  Our 2018 Projects include:

   • RENAME THE MID-HUDSON BRIDGE THE "FRANKLIN + ELEANOR ROOSEVELT BRIDGE."  We propose that the Mid-Hudson Bridge, which connects Poughkeepsie and Highland, NY, be renamed the "FRANKLIN + ELEANOR ROOSEVELT BRIDGE" -- although it was renamed the "Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge" in 1994, almost everyone still calls it the "Mid-Hudson Bridge," because that's what the signs on the adjacent highways and streets say (without any reference to FDR).  Renaming the bridge the "FRANKLIN + ELEANOR ROOSEVELT BRIDGE," and changing the signs on the adjacent highways and streets, would recognize Eleanor Roosevelt's huge contributions to FDR's political career, and would encourage tourism in Dutchess County,.    •    NEW YORK COURT + GOVERNMENT REFORM COMMISSION:  We propose that Westchester County, and all of NYS, adopt the Uniform District Court Act (as Nassau and part of Suffolk Counties have done), and abolish the Town and Village Justice Courts.  This would save money by consolidating courts and avoid the huge problems inherent in the Justice Courts: many of the judges serve part-time, which creates huge conflicts of interest (since they're also practicing attorneys), and, by law, Justice Court judges aren't even required to be lawyers!
